earl grey

after how fucking terrible that nutty granola crunch was, I haven't even wanted to approach my "tea station"
but I'm cold, and you can never truly go wrong with earl grey.
unfortunately, there is still the stench of the nutty granola crunch (I left the package out) and it overpowered the sweet scent of earl grey.

/sigh
I am saddened.
I had finally found teas there that I loved,
- jade citrus mint
- zingiber ginger coconut
- white chocolate peppermint
the bf with his blueberry bliss & pineapple kona pop

I'm glad I've spent the last few weeks stockpiling these teas,
and that I just placed an order for 7 lbs of rock sugar,
but this is still pretty devastating for me.
ugh.
this may be the hangover talking, but I kinda wanna cry about it

nutty granola crunch

it smells like a peanut butter cookie  >_>
I didn't know this, and I mean this sincerely, but I didn't know that I didn't want to drink something warm that smells like a peanut butter cookie.
dunno how it's gonna go

update: yuck!

update 2: second cup is way worse (tbf I didn't add any sugar since it's obv not worth the calories)

update 3: this made me wish I had chosen "shitea" instead of "not my cup of tea" because ffs it's terrible

wild sweet orange

after how much sweetness I've had today I wanted something that doesn't need anything added in.
plus, to be perfectly honest, I don't think I'll be purchasing this guy again, and while I do have quite a few bags left I wanna move my vanilla chai into this guy's spot on the tea organizer.

chai pumpkin spice and vanilla chai

it's not bad, by any means, but I really expected it to taste better.
I imagined the vanilla and the pumpkin spice would really complement each other, but instead, they seem to be battling it out.
/shrug
still good, just not what I had been hoping for.

steep time: 4 mins
steep temp: ~ 200º F

vanilla chai

double bagged, added half & half...  goes sooooo great with those cookies I mentioned yesterday

lady grey

funny story,
my mug keeps teas hot for quite a while, so I often have to wait for teas to become cool enough to drink.
I'm reading a book, and at some point I reach over for a swig of tea.
.oO(hrm...  this tastes like a milder earl grey)
and then I remembered what tea I was drinking.
lol
the leaves smell heavenly, btw.

holiday tea

harney & sons is having a sale for black friday and I was on the verge of ordering a 4 oz tin of holiday tea when I remembered they sent me a bag of it.
it's still too hot to drink but judging by the smell I don't think I'll be buying any more of it.
we'll see how it tastes before too much longer, though.

edit: the smell is offputting, but the flavor is actually pretty good.

this is prolly my favorite bagged herbal.
it's so...  comforting and warm.

earl grey

I always feel like twinings is really weak, plus I have a 13 oz mug rather than an 8 oz.
so I double bagged it.
def much stronger, and tastes much better, but it is a bit too strong now.
I'm thinking about adding half & half.
but still, I like it much more than when single bagged.

edit: no half & half.  this shit is glorious all on its own ^_^

earl grey supreme

I was browsing r/tea and ran a search for earl grey to see what all those folks thought.
several times people would mention harney & sons' earl grey supreme.
I was on the verge of ordering some when it was time for a new pot,
and guess what I already own?
lol
it is way better than taylors, btw.  much more earl grey-ey
and harney & sons has several types of earl grey, am def interested in trying others (I already checked - I have nothing else in this brand except that tropical green I keep at work)

earl grey

I'm gonna make it an earl grey day.
I love bigelow's earl grey, especially the smell that hits me when I tear open a packet.
but I have a few different brands of earl grey, so I'm interested in which is my favorite.
I also recently discovered that bigelow has a loose leaf earl grey, that I am very interested in trying.

my first go is taylors:

earl grey

I've been drinking tea at work but since I'm in a communal area I'm not taking pics of my tea.
I left the tropical green up there and while the first cup is always remarkably bitter I do enjoy it.

of course, who doesn't enjoy the glorious earl grey?
esp with a couple of almond biscotti
(qq I'm out of the chocolate pumpkin pie biscotti)

because some like it sweet :x
I love bigelow's earl grey.  seriously love it, just the smell when I tear open the packet makes me happy.

gonna be a great morning

organic acas white

so double bagging has actually really improved this tea.
I have a 14 oz mug and the bags are for 8 oz of water so it's not really surprising.
I only had 5 bags left and have been so happy with double bagging that I decided to triple bag one mug so instead of 2 mugs with 2 bags and 1 mug with 1 bag, I opted for 1 mug with 3 bags and 1 mug with 2 bags.

edit: it's actually terrible.
throwing it and the last two bags away.

cococaramel sea salt

yay getting rid of teas~
did not even have enough for a batch of this stuff, but I didn't wanna just throw the last bit away.
I don't remember if I liked it when I had it last, but I'm not optimistic as the first ingredient listed is "cocoa kernals, " with "chocolate flakes" listed shortly after.  it does have almond pieces and pistachio kernels, so...  yeah I have no idea how this is gonna go.

gonna try varying the water temp
still smells fucking amazing though

tropical green

I remembered to get pics this time!
tea was still pretty bitter even though I lowered the water temp a bit.
I brought the tin home to try it on my fancy kettle, so if it's still bitter it's just bitter tea.

chamomile

when I ordered from harney & sons they sent me a few samples.
I had the chamomile and made the organic green for the bf.
I had wondered if the reason I disliked the chamomile tea I've had before is because celestial seasonings is a shit supermarket brand, and while the stuff from harney & sons was a lot better I still don't think I'll ever buy chamomile tea.

steep time: 4mins
steep temp: 200º F

bonus pic of the bf's tea:

organic acai white

double bagged this bad boy because:
1) was kinda weak the last time I had it
2) the box is huge and I wanna get rid of it
3) drinking it with two bags at a time cuts it down to only a zillion servings left

with two bags it's actually quite nice - stronger flavor yet still mild

steep time: 4 mins
steep temp: 175º F

tropical green

I forgot to take a picture >_<
I got some harney & sons tropical green to take to work.
after steeping the tea leaves had expanded quite beautifully.
I didn't much like the tea, though.
to be fair, it smells so AMAZING that I'm not sure it could possibly taste as good as it smells.

I was using my new bonavita and in spite of reading the directions I don't think I was doing it right =/
I was aiming for 170F but it heated up to 173F anyway...
/shrug
I waited for it to come down and figured I had just cocked up programming it.
it was a bit bitter and the color very light so I decided I would fuck with the temp for the next two steeps
went to 175F first then ended up just at 170F again.

over the course of the morning it grew on me.
I'll try and post a pic tomorrow, of dry and used leaves, and of the tea.

so I kinda knew this, but had forgotten...  the teavana perfecteaspoon is not a teaspoon but about a teaspoon and a half (or something).  so in order to more accurately count calories, I've switched to a teaspoon.  there is not a lot of sugar in this cup of tea.  >_>
